With College Football kicking off the 2025 season in less than 2 weeks (Week 0 games), the Monarchs kicked off Week 3 of their 2025 Fall camp with a media session on Monday, August 11th.

Today’s session featured punt team work, individual drills, 11-on-11 action, and some red zone reps.
The Monarchs are coming off their first scrimmage of Fall camp, held on Saturday August 9th. So let’s jump right in with today’s observations:
-
Play of the Day: during 11-on-11 drills Linebacker Dirrick Goodman read the play perfectly, jumped a Ryan Huff pass, secured it and raced 25 yards to the end zone for a pick-six.
- That wasn’t the only highlight play during 11-on-11. True Freshman QB Ryan Huff was able to shake the mistake off immediately and, on the next play, he hit Wide Receiver T.J. Johnson on a deep ball along the sidelines for a nice 45 yard gain!
- The day’s final highlight came in red zone drills, when walk-on freshman running back Jonathan Newton broke free from the 15-yard line for a touchdown. His offensive linemen were quick to meet him in the end zone with congratulatory celebration for the impressive run

- During today’s punt team drills, both Ian Brandt and Josh Hamel showcased their legs, booming several deep punts with impressive hang time.
- There is still not much to report on with the Wide Receivers as they are still rotating a lot between the different units. During the media interview portion Head Coach Ricky Rahne had some nice things to say about Na’eem Abdul-Rahim Gladding and we also got to speak with Na’eem again this week so be sure to check those interviews out.
- The offensive line with the first unit from left to right was Zach Barlev, Skyler Grant, Ryan Joyce, Elijah Hoskin and Stephon Dubose-Bourne. The second unit included Josh Schuetzmann at LT, Theo Bachelder at LG and Maarten Woudsma at C. I wasn’t able to catch who was at Right Guard and Right Tackle for the 2nd unit. The third unit from left to right was Braden Ellis, Cameron Hill, Billy Gough, Jack Sheehan and Carson Bradley.
- The cornerbacks today on the first unit were Botros Alisandro and Zion Frink.
- The safeties with the first unit were once again Mario Easterly, Jerome Carter and Nickendre Stiger.
That’s a wrap on today’s media practice! In case you missed it, Old Dominion introduced a new cornerbacks coach last week—Kresean Reed. To hear more about what Coach Reed brings to the Monarchs, check out today’s interview with Head Coach Ricky Rahne, where I asked him exactly that. We also caught up with senior defensive end Kris Trinidad today—definitely a conversation worth hearing. That’s all for today, Monarch Nation—and as always, Go Monarchs!
