Today marked the final time the media will get a look at the Monarchs on the practice field for the 2025 Fall Camp. Unfortunately, a prior commitment ran long and caused me to miss the first half of the media window. By the time I arrived, the team was working through individual drills and then closed things out with about six red-zone reps. With that being the case, I don’t have many on-field observations to share this time — but I did come away with some great post-practice interviews.

First, we caught up with Coach Kevin Smith (Special Teams Coordinator / Outside Linebackers Coach). It was an awesome conversation about the special teams units and how camp has been going. Special teams might not always get the spotlight, but it plays a huge role in winning football games — definitely worth checking out.

Next, we had a great talk with Cornerback Zion Frink. He made the move from safety to corner this offseason, so we discussed how that transition has gone and the impact of the recent coaching change for the cornerbacks. You won’t want to miss his insights.

We wrapped things up with one of the leaders in the trenches, Offensive Lineman Zach Barlev. He gave his thoughts on Sun Belt Media Days, how the offensive line is progressing and even shared what he enjoyed most on the food front while in New Orleans!

That officially closes the book on 2025 Fall Camp practice coverage! Next week, Mike, Aaron, and I will have another opportunity to interview players during ODU Football Media Day — so stay tuned for that. And don’t forget to join us at Afterglow Brewing for the ODU vs. Indiana Watch Party on Saturday, August 30th. Details will be posted soon on our socials.

Thanks for following along with our Fall Camp coverage. That’s going to do it, Monarch Nation — and as always, Go Monarchs!
