The temps may be cooler this week,Β but the Monarchs are just starting to heat up as they gear up for the start of the 2025 Season!
Our Old Dominion Monarchs opened Week 2 of Fall Camp on Monday, August 4th, and the media was fortunate to catch the final 45 minutes of practice. During that time, we watched the team work through 11-on-11 and 7-on-7 periods before wrapping up the day with red zone drills.
The pace today was noticeably faster and more intense than Day 1 of Fall Campβso letβs dive right in. Here are my observations:
- Let's start with the Play of the Day which occurred during the Red Zone Drills - Quinn Henicle hit Freshman Wide Receiver Josh Rodriguez along the back of the end zone for a toe tapping touchdown! Josh showed great hands and concentration on the play to go up and get the ball and make sure he got a foot down in bounds for the touchdown!

- That wasnβt the only highlight play for Rodriguez. Β During 11-on-11, fellow true freshman QB Ryan Huff hit Josh on a 20-yard slant over the middle of the field that Josh would take another 40 yards to the house.
- Not to be outdone, QB Colton Joseph hit WR JaβCory Thomas on a 55 yard bomb for a TD early on in the first 11-on-11 session, then in a later 11-on-11 session Colton hit WR Tre Brown III on a 60-yard bomb for a TD (the second time in as many media practices for a big bomb from Colton to Tre).
- As to be expected, there is still a lot of rotation for the wide receiver group among the different units. That amount of rotation, in this authorβs opinion, continues to speak to the talent and depth in this wide receiver room. Β In my opinion, the best it has been during the Ricky Rahne era.
- The offensive line with the first unit from left-to-right was Zach Barlev, Skyler Grant, Ryan Joyce, Logan Cox and Stephon Dubose-Bourne.
- The defensive line with the first unit from left-to-right was Kris Trinidad, DeAndre Lynch and Christopher Spencer.
- The cornerbacks today on the first unit were Botros Alisandro and Jorian βJoJoβ Haynes. Β Today was the first time I really noticed JoJo between Spring and Fall practices but I was very impressed and I have heard he has speed to burn!
- The safeties with the first unit were Mario Easterly, Jerome Carter and Nickendre Stiger. Β During the interview session Mario discussed his move from the βfreeβ safety to the βkingβ safety this season.
That wraps up todayβs media practice! If you havenβt locked in your season tickets yet, what are you waiting for?
