Do you have a nickname you prefer to go by?
What’s going on Monarch Family! This is Freshman WR Zay Prince and the nickname I prefer to go by is “ZP”.
Who was your lead recruiter and how would you describe your relationship with the staff?
My lead recruiter was Coach Kody Cook, who is a stand up guy that brings the energy that the class of 2025 will need. Coach Cook is confident in his plan with having the will to win. And my relationship with the staff starting with Kyle Pollock has been nothing short of amazing. Since day one he made sure that my process ran as smoothly as possible. So shout out to Kyle. It was great to receive the check ups mentally and physically from Coach Rahne! And the rest of the staff, they have been welcoming me with open arms.
Did you make a visit to campus or do you plan too? If so, what stood out about campus to you?
My first time on campus was in 2023, which was an amazing experience. What stood out to me is that I can go less than 10 minutes down the road and can just sit by the water after a great day of practice. The view of water just eases me into a peaceful state of mind and it's a place where i can have long talks with myself and GOD, and just manifest beautiful things in life.
What other offers were you considering?
Besides Bowling Green, Memphis was one of the top schools on my list.
What made you pick ODU over your other offers?
Like I mentioned, when I first came on an unofficial in 2023, I came with my mom and she told me straight up “Zay if you ever decide to stay close to home. This has to be the school you pick ” and we believe in everything happening for a reason in our lives and that GOD makes no mistakes. So once Coach Cook reached out to me about the camp, my mom said "This is no coincidence, Zay. You are going to go to the camp and make it happen". We already knew what ODU can bring to the table, for the education side of things. And once me and Coach Cook stayed in contact, we made everything official and have been locked in ever since!
If you had to pick a player to compare your game to, who would you pick?
If I would compare my game to a player, it would definitely be Deebo Samuel. I’m a versatile athlete. I can be in the slot and receive jet sweeps, go outside as a deep ball threat or go in the back field and make a play. I feel as though I'm great at making a man miss in open field. I’m elusive and a great route runner like Deebo and I'm only going to continue to develop overtime. So that’s a person I would compare my skills too.
What has been your favorite moment or highlight from your football career so far?
I’ll say my favorite moment was this trick play my team ran. They had me start in the back field and gave me a toss. So the safety started to scream down, the DB’s as well and, once I noticed that, I threw a 60yard touchdown to my wide receiver and started screaming, running down the sideline once he caught it. We practiced that all week and I couldn’t believe we pulled it off. Great memories at Rock Creek, man.
If you weren’t playing football, what other sport would you want to play in college?
If I wasn’t playing football, I would definitely be playing basketball! You guys know every football player really have hoop dreams.
If you were a boxer or UFC fighter, what would your entrance music be?
If I was a boxer and I had to come out to a song, I would definitely come out to my brother's song “DEEP END”. Artist name is KENWAY.
What is your message for Monarch Nation?
I'm ready to begin this journey that GOD is guiding me on at Old Dominion University and just know it’s going be a great one! 2025 is going be a year full of miracles, FAVOR, and blessings. 757, be ready to get HYPE, BABY! I’m coming for everything I deserve, all in GOD'S WILL! #playbythebay
